Pianist Michiel Braam spurs on the thirteen members of his Bik Bent Braam to turn his music inside out, change the tempo and atmosphere and continually give it an unexpected twist. In order to push them to the limits during this bi-monthly concert series, every set will only consist of a single composition from the rich and varied Bik Bent Braam repertoire. So two KompoSetsies per evening. The starting point for the first set is Braam’s 1989 piece ‘De Tekening’ (The Drawing), which has a score based solely on text. The second set is based on Ravel’s Bolero, which is described by the composer as ‘orchestration without music’.
In this series Bik Bent Braam introduces young improvisers who contribute to the sound of the band. This month Brazilian born tenor sax player Yedo Gibson will play with the band, as well as Goran Krmac, ’not your typical tuba player’ from Serbia. Also, seasoned bassist Arjen Gorter will play with Bik Bent Braam for the very first time.
