Led by bass guitarist Vincent Henar, the Surinam ensemble Fra Fra Sound has developed into a band that combines kaseko with hard bop, showing all aspects of the Afro Carribbean music. Collaborations with Lester Bowie and David Murray, but also with prominent Malinese artists, illustrate their versatility. In the style of Art Blakey, with Fra Fra, Henar has educated many young musicians in this important Dutch movement. The group celebrates its 25th anniversary from November 17th until the 20th with the festival ‘Bigi Yari’. Next to concerts of Fra Fra Sound and Fra Fra Big Band (with special guests), there will also be three international groups performing that have a special connection with Henar and his musicians.
