BIG BAND KONINKLIJK CONSERVATORIUM STEVE REICH PROJECT: MINIMAL MUSIC IN BIG BAND JAZZ
Sunday14 December 2003

In the first two weeks of december, The Royal Music Conservatory of The Hague focuses attention to minimal music, including the jazz department. The American composer Steve Reich has been invited and will be the key figure in this event. The influence of the later music of John Coltrane on Reich is unmistakable. In several arrangementsof Bob Brookmeyer and the works of younger jazz composers like Joseph C. Philliphs Jr. and Jaime Begian, the transitional movements and trance effects are empasized by repetition. Two extremes meet in this program of the Big Band KC: minimal music and jazz.
