In 2021, jazz in Amsterdam is an international affair. Musicians in the city come from far and wide, as evidenced by this double concert.
Taking a breath from his successful BvR Flamenco Big Band, Van Rossum presents his debut Quartet album Trampoline. After a rock ’n roll adolescence playing the drums, the saxophone player and composer revisits the rhythmical dimension for inspiration. Music in which complexity and simplicity are balanced, and where playfulness and depth are allowed to coexist. The warm sound of Spain is always near, Van Rossum was born and raised there with his English mother and Dutch father.
The Aviv Noam Quartet includes musicians from Israel, Italy and France. Humor, organized chaos and melodic grooves are at the core of their music, which conjures up the avant-garde of the 1950s and 60s. Charles Mingus, Eric Dolphy and John Coltrane are important influences. Saxophonist and band leader Aviv Noam moved from Tel Aviv to Amsterdam several years ago. The Aviv Noam Quartet won the most recent edition of the prestigious Dutch Jazz Competition.
