Benny Golson Quartet
Monday27 May 2019

Benny Golson is more than just a fantastic tenor saxophone player; he’s a legendary composer who linked harmony to the energy of bebop. He has written over 300 compositions, including ever popular standards such as Whisper Not and I Remember Clifford.
Benny Golson played in ensembles led by Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakey. In his recent autobiography Whisper Not he has dedicated a section to his close friendship with John Coltrane. Golson still leads his own quartet. This year he celebrates his 90th birthday.

19.30 introduction and interview with Benny Golson, by Koen Schouten.

‘Among jazz greatest living composers’ (Washington Post).

‘The sound of Golson’s horn is to die for, and his forever-bluesy inventions remain enticing’ (Downbeat).
