BENNIE WALLACE’S COLEMAN HAWKINS CENTENNIAL PROJECT
Monday8 November 2004

There are not many jazz musicians that carry on the jazz tradition with so much freshness and originality as Bennie Wallace does. In his playing you can hear the exuberant and melodic approach of Dolphy, the thematic logic of Rollins, the liberation of the sixties and the solid tenor sound of Ben Webster and Coleman Hawkins. Wallace does a tribute to Hawkins with an original composition and arrangements of Hawkins’ own, rarely played pieces. Hans Dulfer appears as a guest soloist and leads the after party with his own brand new band, all in the atmosphere of Hawkins.
