BENJAMIN HERMAN TRIO & DANIEL VON PIEKARTZ
Daniël von Piekartz zang/piano, Benjamin Herman saxofoon, Ernst Glerum bas, Joost Patocka drums
Trouble is the name of the most recent album by alto saxophonist and Dutch jazz icon Benjamin Herman. Within his versatile oeuvre this 16th solo record has become a collaboration with 24 year-old singer/pianist Daniël von Piekartz.
For the first time in two decades, Herman has delivered an album full of vocal works.’Originally, Daniël was only supposed to collaborate on two tracks’, says Benjamin Herman. ‘However, he is so exceptionally musical that the ideas just kept on flowing. We didn’t feel like stopping.’
The foursome plays pieces by Fats Waller, Henry Mancini and Sly Stone, among others , mostly in post-modern make-overs that would make the average night club visitor miss their last ride home. Alongside the unique Von Piekartz we can expect the usual class of Herman and his gang.
