Since he was 18 alto saxophonist Ben van Gelder has been traveling between the Netherlands and New York, where he studied with Lee Konitz and Mark Turner. After his highly acclaimed debut recording the ‘boy wonder of Dutch jazz’ (NRC) now presents his second CD with his renewed New York band. Unmistakably contemporary music based on melodic jazz and bop. ‘Even though he plays his notes lyrically, carefree and sensitive… every note is rooted in the heritage of the forefathers’ (Parool).
