BEN VAN GELDER QUINTET

Quite a few people looked forward to the debut CD Frame of Reference by alto saxophonist Ben van Gelder, ‘the boy wonder of Dutch jazz’ (NRC). In New York he formed a fantastic band featuring pianist Aaron Parks, who recently performed at the Bimhuis with Joshua Redman. Van Gelder’s style has already been compared to that of his master, Lee Konitz. ‘Even though he plays his notes lyrically, carefree and sensitive… every note is rooted in the heritage of the forefathers’ (Parool).
