For ten years the Turkish-Dutch collective Baraná has been surprising everyone with its exciting blend of Western improvisation and elements of Turkish music. The group has seen several different incarnations around its founding members, Turkish singer/multi-instrumentalist Behsat Üvez and Dutch saxophone and clarinet player Steven Kamperman. The new Baraná Elektro Shaman mixes hypnotic electronic grooves with ancient shamanistic music and lyrics from Turkish-Uyghur mythology. ‘One majestic whirlwind with endless stamina’ (de Volkskrant).
