BABY DEE

HOLLAND FESTIVAL

in collaboration with NPS Radio

Baby Dee-piano, harp, vocals, John Contreras-cello, Alex Nielson-drums, Joe Carvel-bass

American singer-songwriter Baby Dee has charmed Dutch audiences before with her original compositions but also in collaboration with buddy Marc Almond (formerly of Soft Cell). For quite awhile she used to be part of the same New York scene as Antony, for whom, incidentally, she used to play harp. However, her original songs and the unique vocal sound of this transgender artist built in 1953 have helped to reach an increasingly wider audience. Her recent album Safe Inside the Day, produced by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, has received rave reviews wherever it was released. Dee, an Amsterdam resident for awhile in the 1990s, is coming to the Holland Festival for a one-off club concert in the Bimhuis, with an intimate band showcasing new work she has prepared with arranger Maxim Moston.
