BaBa ZuLa from Istanbul has a unique psychedelic sound. This alternative band places oriental instruments such as darbuka, electric saz and spoons alongside beats and electronica. Their ‘Istanbul Psychedelica’ falls back on psychedelic rock-‘n-roll, reggae, dub as well as traditional music from previous generations in Istanbul.
Concerts by BaBa ZuLa are unique experiences, ritual performances with belly dancers, colorful costumes, poetry, theatre and visual art. Each gig is like a blistering party! The band made its international breakthrough by appearing in the documentary Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul, by director Fatih Akin.
