Ayşe Deniz Birdal & Abel Selaocoe

Ayşe Deniz Birdal, Abel Selaocoe cello

Four cellists, four nationalities, four individual quests.

With the prize money of the Anner Bijlsma Award, cello phenomenon Giovanni Sollima has set up a development path for four young international cellists who want more than just playing the well-established repertoire very well. During this concert Maya Fridman (Russia) and Chiara Trentin (Italy) are in the spotlights. Ayşe Deniz Birdal (Turkey) and Abel Selaocoe (South Africa) are participating in this concert.

Both Ayşe Deniz Birdal (Turkey) and Abel Selaocoe (South Africa) are strongly influenced by the musical traditions of their motherland, but they are also fully experimenting to find new ways in which they can use their instruments to create new sound worlds. Turkish folk music, exciting South African traditionals, rock, avant garde and sacred music, it all comes along.
