AVISHAI COHEN (TRUMPET)

WITH REINIER ELIZARDE RUANO, NASHEET WAITS
TRIVENI
Avishai Cohen trompet, Reinier Elizarde Ruano bas, Nasheet Waits drums

Leading magazine Jazz Times already compares him to Miles Davis, because of his expressive style and his ability to reflect the spirit of the age. Trumpet player Avishai Cohen, who must not be confused with the bassist of the same name, is increasingly recognized as a player and was mentioned as ‘Rising Star’ in the Downbeat Critics Polls. He has played the Bimhuis before with SF Jazz Collective and as The Thee Cohens with brother Yuval and his sister, the famous clarinet player Anat Cohen.

Triveni, his trio featuring bassist Ben Street and drummer Nasheet Waits, excels in high speed improvisation, or the rapid musical exchange between three recognized masters from New York. Avishai’s music reveals he originally comes from Israel, a ‘crossroads between Eastern and Western music’, according to the trumpet player. Triveni also plays compositions by, among others, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus and Ornette Coleman.

‘An extravagantly skilled trumpeter, relaxed and soulful… deftly combining sensitivity and flair’ (New York Times).

‘My favorite young trumpeter’ (Enrico Rava).

Afterwards at the café: DJ Welmoed
