AVISHAI COHEN (BASS)
one set without intermission
Avishai Cohen bass/vocals, Nitai Hershkovits piano, Daniel Dor drums
At this moment he is the superstar of the upright bass, but above all Avishai Cohen is an imaginative composer who mixes jazz and Middle Eastern music. His classical background plays an important role in his music, like his love for funk and latin.
Avishai Cohen is a natural performer. With his energetic, catchy playing he brings a large instrument traditionally used for accompaniments to the foreground. From exotic scales to complex meters: everything sounds flexible and accessible in the hands of Cohen and his band.
The Israel-born bassist made a name for himself in New York in the bands of Chick Corea. He played with famous names such as Danilo Pérez, Alicia Keys and the London Symphony Orchestra. Since his debut Adama from 1998 he has released a new record almost every year.
‘A jazz visionary of global proportions’ (Downbeat).
One set of 90 minutes, without intermission. After the concert the Bimhuis cafe is open (free entrance).
