DJ mps PILOT GLOBAL GROOVES
The As If Trio is looking for new, single improvisations and draws from an imaginative and adventurous improvisation archive: ‘The Invisible Notebook’. Mildly anarchistic liberties can lead to jazz standards without a clear theme. In 2006 Double bass-player Raoul van der Weide released his critically acclaimed solo-cd Passages (GeestGronden). Ab Baars and Ig Henneman embody the ‘New Dutch Swing’, the internationally renowned jazz and impro scene of the Netherlands. They perform as a duo since 1999. ‘A poetic landscape, a musical fairy tale, a wandering without a map; this album is as elusive and ambiguous as the word ‘dust’.’ (NRC Handelsblad about CD Stof (Dust) of Baars/Henneman). For his New Mob, saxophonist and band leader Sean Bergin has put together a unique setting of harp, marimba and percussion of the Scotsman Alan Gunga Purves. Tonight he adds two new female voices: Felicity Provan and his daughter Una Bergin. Cornet player/vocalist Provan uses the interaction between improvisation and composition. ‘On trumpet Provan has a remarkably clear sound (…). As a vocalist she possesses a beautiful alto voice. Somebody to watch closely.’ (Trouw).
