Artvark: ‘Mother of Thousand’ ft. Leo van Oostrom

Rolf Delfos alto sax, Bart Wirtz alto sax, Mete Erker tenor sax, Perter Broekhuizen baritone sax, Leo van Oostrom historic saxophones

Artvark saxophone quartet presents their tenth album Mother of Thousand, a dream world of sound and space, hypnotic patterns, and unadulterated blues. Inspired by singular musicians such as Arvo Pärt and Aphex Twin, Artvark entrenched themselves into their self-built studio. With original Adolphe Sax-saxophones from 1860, rare slide saxes from 1920, and a baritone recorded with a snare drum between sax and microphone, among many other things.

Special guest is Leo van Oostrom, nestor of the saxophone in The Netherlands. His collection of saxophones has grown into one of the most distinguished in the world. He played in a great variety of companies, from the Metropole Orchestra to Asko|Schönberg. Artvark stands for innovative original compositions, strong individual soloists and the adventurous groove of four saxophones. The quartet meanders through musical traditions, and sways across the stage according to an improvised choreography.
