Arifa sheds new light on Eastern music. The band welcomes three
female singers and string players from China, Iran and Bulgaria.

Since its
foundation in 2010 Arifa has received international praise for its
unique, orientally flavored music style, which is colored with elements
from Balkan music and jazz. Especially for the concert Voices from the
East the group collaborates with three special guests from China, Iran and Bulgaria. All of them are female musicians and each of them sings
and plays a traditional string instrument.
Arifa is based in
Amsterdam, yet its members have Turkish, Greek, Rumanian, German and
Dutch Roots. With success they shed new light on ancient music from the
Balkan and the Middle East. Arifa’s most recent album was recorded live
at the Bimhuis and was selected as the best Dutch CD of the year by
mixedworldmusic.com.
