Arifa, founded by virtuoso ud player Mehmet Polat, finds inspiration in the cultures and musical traditions of Turkey, Persia, Central Asia, Pakistan and India. The group establishes connections between traditional and contemporary musical forms from these regions, from maqams en taksims to ragas and sufi grooves. The Amsterdam-based musicians have collaborated with Ustad Faiyaz Khan, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Theodossii Spassov, Galia Benali and Theo Loevendie.
