ARCHIE SHEPP QUARTET
Archie Shepp-tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, piano, vocals, Tom McClung-piano, Wayne Dockery-double bass, Steve McCraven-drums
Archie Shepp, avant-gardist from the very beginning and living legend by now, is still a saxophonist you pick out among a crowd. Nowadays he puts his emphasis more on seduction than on provocation but the message is the same, the power and spirituality of the music that he regularly calls Afro-American and that doesn’t just stand for gospel or rap but also for bop, ballads and blues.
