ANTHONY BRAXTON STANDARDS 2003 QUARTET

To enter Anthony Braxton’s music is to enter a vast and ever-expanding universe’ (All About Jazz). Virtuoso saxophonist, clarinettist and all-round genius Anthony Braxton regenerates traditional jazz standards in his very own way. Although influenced by Coltrane, Desmond and Dolphy, he was never really accepted by the jazz establishment and many of the most popular mainstream musicians insisted that Braxton’s music was not jazz at all. These accusations are feeding our curiosity about what Braxton and his quartet are going to do with the standards they selected. This is his first Bimhuis concert in ten years, an event that nobody should miss.
