Lively jazz by playfully improvising group that takes its cue from Charles Mingus, Carla Bley and music from West-Africa and the Balkans. ‘Exhilarating, compelling, majestic’ (Enola).
Swedish alto saxophonist Martin Küchen keeps adding members to his Angles ensemble, which draws comparisons with the lively big bands of Charles Mingus, Carla Bley and Charlie Haden. The music is strong and simple, emotionally charged and intense, and is being performed by musicians who can improvise on a high level. Alongside jazz the nine piece ensemble takes inspiration from folk music from Sweden, Africa and the Balkans.
‘This music aims for the heart. Exhilarating rhythms, compelling melodies, majestic harmonies, soul and emotion’ (Enola).
