ANDY BEY SOLO
Andy Bey-piano, vocals
Andy Bey has a highly impressive résumé. He performed as a ‘child prodigy’ with Sarah Vaughan & Hank Mobley, made his debut album when he was 13 years old and worked with Max Roach, Duke Pearson and Horace Silver with whom he recorded a string of records in the 70’s & 80’s. Still Andy Bey (1940) remained one of the most underestimated jazz vocalists for too long. His recent CD’s: ‘Ballads, Blues and Bey’ and especially ‘Tuesdays in Chinatown’ have changed this. ‘Bey’s baritone effortlessly cuts to the heart of every song, bringing out nuances often glossed over by lesser singers’ (Virgin Encyclopedia of Jazz). This man has sououououououl!’ (het Parool).
