Space is the Place presents a new edition of the Intergalactic Nights, illustrious evenings with performances in all kinds of genres and disciplines, from jazz, improv and classical to dance, theater, poetry and literature. The house pianist is Ernst Glerum, who’s also known as the double bass player of the ICP Orchestra and the Benjamin Herman Trio.

Featuring in this edition:

Young cellist Lidy Blijdorp, who’s known for her narrative power. At the Amsterdam Cello Biennale she was praised for her ‘breathtaking musicality’ (NRC). And in Paris she obtained her master’s degree with the highest distinction. She received no less than two Edison awards for her album Journeyers.

As a poet, Joost Oomen has performed everywhere from Pisa to Paris, and from Lowlands to Crossing Border. Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant named him one of the three literary talents of 2020. In 2021 his novel Het Perenlied was released. In the past season he became the finalist of popular television show De Slimste Mens.

Trumpet and drums form an unusual line-up. However, Alistair Payne and Sun-Mi Hong make it sound completely natural through their imaginative playing. Living in quarantine has given this duo new impulses. The debut album IN: is the fruit of their labor.

The program will be opened with a solo performance by percussionist Yung-Tuan Ku, and Ernst Glerum will provide piano interludes.
