AMSTERDAM KLEZMER BAND & SÖNDÖRGÖ
The Amsterdam Klezmer Band started 20 years ago as a street orchestra playing traditional Jewish songs. The ensemble quickly became internationally known for its contagious mix of klezmer with old as well as new dance music. Now the orchestra joins forces with Söndörgö, the Hungarian formation that sheds new light on lost music from the Balkans. Söndörgö conquers festivals throughout Europe with explosive performances on acoustic stringed instruments from the tamburitza family.
‘Fast and furious, fingers flying with a fiery panache, Söndörgö are one of the most exciting bands in Europe. With their signature instrument, the tambura, the band brilliantly combines respect for tradition with a desire to innovate and a fizzing virtuosity’ (Songlines).
