Mix a dose of klezmer with a pinch of jazz, a shot of balkan and a smidgen of gypsy, et voilà, you’ve got the recipe for Amsterdam Klezmer Band. They like to make you sweat, but they can make you dream away on a soulful lament as well. In the AKB LAB series, the band looks for inspiration in unexpected corners. This time, Amsterdam Klezmer Band is collaborating with drummer Guy Salamon.
With a British opera singer for a mother and a Peruvian salsa musician for a father, Amsterdam-based Guy Salamon is constantly developing his own musical approach. As a band leader he has left quite an impression with the album Unfollow the Leader, which has won the first prize in the competition Keep an Eye – The Records. Guy Salamon has played in other bands with, among others, Jesse van Ruller, Reinier Baas, and Tineke Postma.
The Amsterdam Klezmer Band has been around for more than twenty-five years. Founded in Café De Nieuwe Lelie by frontman Job Chajes and bassist Jasper de Beer, the band grew into a multi-headed formation with a grandiose live reputation, from Paradiso and the Concertgebouw to Sziget and Lowlands.
