Amina Claudine Meyers has played with the great saxophonists Gene Ammons and Sonny Stitt, and in her hometown Chicago with AACM-musicians Lester Bowie and Muhal Richard Abrams. Her admirers enjoyed earlier Bimhuis gigs with her own trio, as part of Joey Baron’s Down Home, with James Blood Ulmer and Von Freeman. While singing and playing Hammond-organ in her solo show Tribute to Blues Legend, her gospel roots come more intensely to the fore.
