All Ellington

Masterfully improvising ensemble performs mix of original compositions and Duke Ellington-repertory.

All Ellington is a tentet featuring musicians from the flourishing Amsterdam improv scene. The band consists of improvising veterans like Joost Buis, Wilbert de Joode and Oscar Jan Hoogland but also feature young talent with saxophonist/clarinettist Mo van der Does. The band is led by trumpeter Eric Boeren, founder of Stichting Doek and common guest on our stage with a.o. Bacchanalia Orchestra.

All Ellington has already closed the year at the BIMHUIS several times, with music by Duke Ellington arranged by the band members. In All Ellington, respect for the original compositions goes hand in hand with individuality and inventiveness, much in the spirit of Ellington’s orchestra back in the day. The expanding All Ellington repertory contains big hits as well as lesser-known gems.

All Ellington mixes wellknown and lesser-known Ellington compositions with remarkable improvisations and solos. – (Sjoerd van Aelst: Jazzflits)
