Duke Ellington – his music is an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Especially for All Ellington, a tentet featuring musicians from the flourishing Amsterdam improv scene. Last summer, the band performed a number of open air concerts. For each of these shows, a composition was written, inspired by the location. At the BIMHUIS, these five compositions will form one whole suite, in the best Ellington tradition.
All Ellington has already closed the year at the BIMHUIS several times, with music by Duke Ellington arranged by the band members. In All Ellington, respect for the original compositions goes hand in hand with individuality and inventiveness, much in the spirit of Ellington’s orchestra back in the day. The expanding All Ellington repertory contains big hits as well as lesser-known gems.
