ALFREDO RODRIGUEZ TRIO

Alfredo Rodriguez piano, Reinier Elizarde bass, Michael Olivera drums

The piano playing of Alfredo Rodriguez is more than just a technically breathtaking meeting of Cuban styles, jazz and modern classical music. The young pianist, who was discovered by Quincy Jones, manages to convey his emotions about leaving his native Cubafor good in pursuit of a promising career. From his New York base he has been conquering all the great international jazz festivals. ‘He has monumental chops, but for Rodriguez they are a means to communicate feeling, not an end’ (Jazz Times).

‘Young Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodriguez sounds the way Monk might have sounded if he had been born in Chick Corea’s body and raised on a diet of Bach, Chopin and Stravinsky in a Havana conservatory.’ (San Jose Mercury News).
