ALEXANDER VON SCHLIPPENBACH TRIO

Alexander von Schlippenbach-piano, Evan Parker-tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, Paul Lovens-drums

This trio is a monument in the European improvisation music scene, comparable in significance the collaboration between Misha Mengelberg and Han Bennink. Once inspired by Cecil Taylor’s trio of 1963, Von Schlippenbach, Parker and Lovens quickly found their own way: one of pure improvisation in which they have set the norm for over three decades. Three brilliant musicians, each of them with an explicit style and a rich arsenal of mutual experience. Their CD Swinging The Bim, which was recorded at the Bimhuis, earned a top rating in the authoritative Penguin Guide to Jazz. ‘A terrific ride from start to finish’ (BBC). ‘Sheer untrifling intensity’ (Penguin Guide to Jazz).
