ALEXANDER VON SCHLIPPENBACH TRIO

Alexander von Schlippenbach-piano, Evan Parker-tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, Paul Lovens-drums

This trio is a monument in the European improvised music, its importance probably only to be compared with the collaboration of Misha Mengelberg and Han Bennink. Once inspired by Cecil Taylor’s trio of 1963 (the Copenhagen recordings with Jimmy Lions and Sunny Murray) Schlippenbach, Parker and Lovens quickly found their own road, that of pure improvised music, in which they set a standard for over three decades. A memorable 1999 Bimhuis concert of this trio was released as a double album ‘Swinging the Bim’ by the German Label FMP. The prestigious Penguin Jazz Guide wrote that this is one of the 200 albums that should be present in any serious jazz collection.
