Alexander Hawkins & Tomeka Reid
Sunday27 November 2022

Pianist Alexander Hawkins and cellist Tomeka Reid have previously performed on our stage with the groundbreaking flute player Nicole Mitchell. Both of them have been part of the Taylor Ho Bynum Quintet, and of trios led by Ingrid Laubrock and Mike Reed. As a duo they have recorded the album Shards and Constellations (2020).

As an improvising cellist, Tomeka Reid has carved a unique path in the jazz world. Several times she has been reached the number one spot in the Downbeat Critics Poll in the miscellaneous instruments category. She’s one of the younger members of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, alongside veterans such as Roscoe Mitchell and Don Moye. She also plays in various bands in her residence New York.

Alexander Hawkins has performed on our stage in various genres and line-ups, playing ethio-jazz with Mulatu Astatke, and South African jazz with Louis Moholo-Moholo, as well as hardcore improv with Evan Parker, and Han Bennink. This indicates the broad range of the pianist, who is also regarded as one of the most interesting Hammond organ players of our time.
