Alessandro Fongaro’s Pietre ft. Sun-Mi Hong, Nicolò Ricci & Jesse Schilderink

Nicolò Ricci tenor sax, Jesse Schilderink baritone sax/tenor sax, Alessandro Fongaro double bass/composition, Sun-Mi Hong drums

Pietre (‘stones’ in Italian) is the brainchild of bassist Alessandro Fongaro, a quartet he brought together during the second lockdown in 2021. He describes the music that he composed as ‘a sort of personal diary, in which I collected all that I went through in that period: love, heartbreaks, friendships and so on.’ Stuttering rhythms and sensitive melodies characterize the music, which has a certain vulnerability.

Italian-born basis and composer Alessandro Fongaro has played in various jazz groups in Amsterdam, such as Sun-Mi Hong Quintet and Tijn Wybenga’s AM.OK. He has previously performed on our stage with his own bands CLOD! and Alessandro Fongaro Quintet. In Pietre, he plays with musicians he developed strong connections: saxophonists Nicolò Ricci and Jesse Schilderink, and drummer Sun-Mi Hong.
