AHMAD JAMAL

Ahmad Jamal-piano, James Cammack-bass, Idris Muhammad-drums

The Bimhuis-debut from one of the all-time greatest jazzpianists, Ahmad Jamal (1930). Miles Davis called him ‘his inspiration’. About his last cd After Fajr (2005) The New York Times wrote: ‘Mr. Jamal likes to play gentle, perfumed melodies as single notes in the high register of the keyboard. But then he balances them with darker, authoritative ringing tones from the lower end; he drawls and withdraws almost to the point of disappearing, then returns like a bulldozer, playing in a jacked-up, dislocating style.’
