Amsterdam Dance Event’s Saturday night opens with a view over the IJ river, with a performance by the Norwegian legend who moved jazz into the 21^st century: Nils Petter Molvær. He is not just a phenomenal trumpet player, but also a pioneer of live-electronics. Much like a DJ/producer, he creates a complete musical universe on the spot, with control panels at his left hand and effect pedals under his feet.

He made his breakthrough in the late nineties with the album Khmer, mixing jazz, electronic beats and sampling in a way that had never been done before. Since then he has been recognized as an absolute jazz hero in Norway and the rest of the world. Today his oeuvre still sounds urgent. At Amsterdam Dance Event he will give a rare solo performance.
