For his 80th birthday Ack van Rooyen has invited his favourite young Dutch jazz musicians at the Bimhuis. As a trumpet player in The Ramblers, Van Rooyen was already an original and well respected bebop player in the 1950s. He was part of the first modern jazz generation in Europe and he recorded countless albums with Dutch and international artists. Today many jazz greats still rely on his lyrical and laidback style; some of the many artists which until recently Van Rooyen shared the stage with include Lee Konitz, Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Evans and Steve Gadd.
