ACHIM KAUFMANN TRIO KYRILL FEAT. VALDI KOLLI & JIM BLACK

Pianist Achim Kaufmann plays in several trios. In all of them he consciously deviates from the classical piano jazz format. In Kyrill the Icelandic bassist Valdi Kolli and the American drummer Jim Black do not play traditional swing, but with grooves derived from blues and rock though often in irregular time signatures. Kaufmann adds colour and texture while improvising. On his recent recordings with Kyrill he explicitly honours musicians and such artists as Misha Mengelberg, Dewey Redman and James Ensor.
