Royal Improvisers Orchestra (RIO), a new Dutch ensemble with 20 jazz musicians, has a similar setup as large scale improv projects like London Improvisers Orchestra. Founder Yedo Gibson is from São Paulo. He played with the jazz quintet Abaetetuba, which is unique in Brazil for its experimental approach. In 2004 the reed player moved to London where he worked with like-minded musicians, including Veryan Weston and Steve Beresford. In his current residence Amsterdam he has come full circle: for this concert Abaetetuba shares the stage with RIO. Tonight the Bimhuis cafe-restaurant will be serving a buffet menu instead of its usual a-la-carte menu (€ 15, from 18.30 hrs). Reservations recommended: 020-7882158 (from 11.00 hrs).
