40 YEARS LOEK DIKKER / WATERLAND ENSEMBLES

A CELEBRATION OF MUSIC!

Loek Dikker piano, Leo van Oostrom sopraan-/altsax, Jan Menu tenor-/baritonsax, Friedmar Hitzer viool/violofoon, Jacko Schoonderwoerd bas, Pierre Courbois percussie

40th anniversary and glance to the future of the Waterland Ensembles led by pianist and (film) composer Loek Dikker, whose music is influenced by tango and gypsy jazz, among other styles.

Since the 1970s pianist Loek Dikker has been leading several incarnations of his Waterland group, from trio to a big band. Because he has been mixing jazz with such eccentric influences as tango and gypsy songs he has been compared to his contemporary Willem Breuker. Since 1981 on Dikker has composed dozens of movie soundtracks, for which he has received awards in The Netherlands, Italy and Hollywood. He has worked with such directors as Paul Verhoeven and Joel Schumacher, in films with ao Johnny Depp, John Hurt and Helen Mirren. In his ensemble he combines composition and improvisation, displaying a preference for string instruments.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
