Sustainability projects

We take part in several international sustainability projects.

Sustainability projects

International Jazz Platform

Intl Jazz Platform is a combination of a festival with exciting shows, a conference with workshops and meetings for representatives of the industry. Musicians and professionals share experiences and support each other, both during formal sessions and informal meetings. Since many years Intl Jazz Platform is organised in Poland and Norway, but this will be the first edition that take place in the BIMHUIS as part of the Better Live project. Check out our Int Jazz Platform page for more information about the program and the application process for musicians.

Better Live

We are one of eleven partners of Better Live, a four-year project to make the music world more sustainable, just and inclusive. Better Live will initially focus on the transition of the jazz and improvised music scene, later expanding to the entire live music sector in Europe. Check out our Better Live page for more information.

Landscape

Landscape, led by AJC, le Périscope, and BIMHUIS, supports the ecological transition of the music industry through research, training, and innovative actions. The project offers free digital tools, multilingual resources, and industry studies, including a focus on the Netherlands. It hosts workshops on sustainable practices and “twisted concerts” that reimagine touring by connecting artists, audiences, and local venues like mountain refuges and cafes. Landscape aims to inspire ecological innovation, equipping professionals to adopt and share sustainable practices across Europe.
The Landscape project is supported by the French government as part of the “Supporting Green Alternatives in Culture” initiative (TN: original title “Soutenir les alternatives vertes dans la culture”) within the cultural and creative industries (CCI) sector of France 2030, operated by the Caisse des Dépôts (TN: Deposits and Consignments Fund)

Footprints

We are partners in the European project Footprints, which aims at a more sustainable, fair and inclusive live music system in Europe. On March 8 and 9, 2023, our venue hosted a conference where European partners, musicians and related thinkers discussed this theme. Check out our Footprints page for more information.

The Green Pilot Tour & The Green Train

We are also an active member of the Europe Jazz Network (EJN). On December 4, the Norwegian band Cortex performed at our stage. This concert was part of The Green Pilot Tour. This is a tour in which a band plays at a minimum of four European venues and travels as sustainable as possible. We organized this tour in cooperation with Cortex and No Earplugs Booking Agency. Cortex played in Amsterdam, Cologne, Lyon, Paris and Tours over a six-day period. The long distances were covered by train, the short distances by electric transport in the form of metro or electric cars. From recycled bottles to vegetarian dining, the band lived the entire tour as sustainable as possible and motivated its audience to do the same.

In addition to this Green Pilot Tour, we also subscribe to the principles of Take The Green Train, from the same Europa Jazz Network (EJN). This initiative is aimed at achieving a climate-neutral, sustainable music industry.

Sustainable rider

The UIMA (United Independent Music Agencies) has launched a sustainable rider for artists and is working toward a sustainable future for the music industry, focusing on sharply reducing its carbon footprint. They are focusing on flying less, eating differently, less waste and green energy. We support the use of this sustainable rider.
