AKB LAB
New series where the Amsterdam Klezmer Ban pushes their boundaries.
When it comes to klezmer and Balkan music, the Amsterdam Klezmer Bad (AKB) is considered a gamechanger all over the world, known for its original approach. In the new series AKB-LAB, the band looks for inspiration in unexpected corners. This very first edition features drummer Han Bennink and reeds player Joris Roelofs. They will subject the AKB to a thorough musical rearrangement.
The Amsterdam Klezmer Band has been around for over 25 years. It was founded in Café De Nieuwe Lelie by front man Job Chajes and bassist Jasper de Beer, and grew into a formation with a marvellous live reputation, from Paradiso to The Concertgebouw, and from Sziget to Lowlands. For over 60 years, Han Bennink has been praised for his pioneering spirit and his extraverted drumming style. Joris Roelofs excels on various saxophones, clarinets and flutes. For example, he was the lead alto saxophonist with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw for 15 years.
