VIA BELGICA

Urbex & Ben van Gelder

Dynamic band, part acoustic and part electric, featuring Ben van Gelder and members of TaxiWars, among others. ‘Fine new highlight in Belgian jazz’ (Written in Music).

URBEX stands for ‘Urban Exploration’: the rugged aesthetics of the city is an important source of inspiration for this eight-piece band featuring prominent Belgian jazz musicians. Horns and acoustic piano merge smoothly with deep bass and electric guitar in the energetic and simultaneously atmospheric music.
Drummer Antoine Pierre wrote the compositions with two cities in mind: Brussels, where he founded the band, and New York, where he got close to the local jazz scene. Antoine played the BIMHUIS before with TaxiWars featuring Tom Barman (dEUS) and in the band of guitar legend Philip Catherine. Special guest at this performance is young Dutch saxophone hero Ben van Gelder, who also plays on Sketches of Nowhere, URBEX’ most recent album.

Jean-Paul Estiévenart trumpet, Ben Van Gelder saxophone, Bert Cools guitar, Jozef Dumoulin piano, Félix Zurstrassen bass, Antoine Pierre drums
