Op zijn veertiende speelde saxofonist Lars Dietrich met Herbie Hancock in het tv-programma Masterclass. In 2005 verhuisde hij naar New York, waar hij in contact kwam met leermeesters als Joe Lovano en David Binney en waar hij The Story oprichtte. Dit New Yorkse quintet, met de veelbelovende Britse toetsenist John Escreet, speelt melodieuze, eigentijdse jazz met een scherp randje. ‘A powerful group whose playing is well beyond its youthful guise’ (All About Jazz).
