The Cookers spelen in de traditie van de hard bop, de explosieve stijl die eind jaren ’50 ontstond als reactie op het meer relaxte cool jazz. Tijdens de hoogtijdagen van de hard bop bracht Blue Note ‘Night of the Cookers’ uit, waarop Freddie Hubbard en Lee Morgan hun opzwepende spel lieten horen. Met The Cookers verwelkomt het Bimhuis legendarische musici die al decennialang de hard bop springlevend houden.
