De New Yorkse altsaxofonist Ned Rothenberg bouwde een reputatie op met zijn soloconcerten, waarin hij, voortbouwend op technieken van Evan Parker, een geheel eigen muzikale taal ontwikkelde. Zijn huidige groep The Fell Clutch – ‘a kind of next-generation jam band’ – met basgitarist Stomu Takeishi (o.a. Cuong Vu, Myra Melford) en drummer Tony Buck (o.a.
