MOSE ALLISON

Mose Allison (1927), legendarisch jazzvocalist en pianist, de onbetwiste favoriet van Hans Dulfer en Herman Brood, die zijn groep Wild Romance vernoemde naar een nummer van Allison. Allison wordt wel de William Faulkner van de jazz genoemd. Zijn invloed op uiteenlopende artiesten als The Rolling Stones, John Mayall, J.J. Cale, The Who en The Clash is niet te onderschatten. Allison, in eigen woorden: ‘My style is the result of playing 50 years with no technique. I never studied the piano beyond elementary school, so I’m not trained. But I do have a great feeling of the time, which to me is the basic, most essential but most overlooked element of jazz.’
