De New Yorkse saxofonist Jacques Schwarz-Bart mengt soul en jazz met Gwoka, de volksmuziek uit zijn geboorteland Guadeloupe. ‘Brother Jacques’ viel op in de band van soulster D’Angelo en werkte samen met Roy Hargrove, Erykah Badu, Meshell Ndegeocello en Danilo Pérez. ‘Mr. Schwarz-Bart fuses the hard tone of John Coltrane and the young Wayne Shorter in the angular lines and asymmetrical structures atop rhythms from Guadeloupe.
