FRED HERSCH SOLO

Fred Hersch-piano

Drie jaar geleden speelde de New Yorkse pianist Fred Hersch, ‘one of the small handful of brilliant musicians of his generation’ (DownBeat), twee opeenvolgende avonden in het Bimhuis. De eerste avond samen met Han Bennink en Michael Moore, de tweede avond solo. De registratie van dat solo-concert verscheen onlangs op Palmetto en ontvangt superlatieve kritieken. ‘Live at the Bimhuis offers a comprehensive portrait of Mr. Hersch’s strengths as a pianist; the supple toch and clarion tone, the inquisitive sense of harmony and rhythm. It’s almost certainly his finest documented solo performance… Superior in almost all regards, the new album makes the case for Mr. Hersch as an artist at the pinnacle of his prowess.’ (The New York Times). ‘I think there is a certain un-self-consciousness about the performances on this disc that is extremely difficult for me (or almost anyone) to achieve in a recording studio.’, aldus Hersch. ‘I had one of those magical nights where everything felt right.’
