Lyrische duetten door de beroemde basgitarist Steve Swallow en trombonist Christian Muthspiel, die in zijn composities kiest voor de kracht van de eenvoud.
Voor het album Simple Songs componeerde trombonist Christian Muthspiel een reeks duetten, die hij opnam met basgitarist Steve Swallow. De instrumentale songs werden bewust eenvoudig gehouden, waardoor het lyrische samenspel uitstekend tot zijn recht komt. De Oostenrijkse trombonist Muthspiel maakt in dit duo uitstapjes naar piano, fluit en speelgoedinstrumenten.
Steve Swallow is vooral bekend om zijn karakteristieke spel op basgitaar, waarmee hij grote jazzartiesten als Paul Bley, Jimmy Giuffre en John Scofield begeleidde. Zijn melodieuze songs werden gespeeld door o.a. Bill Evans en Pat Metheny en gesampled door A Tribe Called Quest.
